Augusta, Ga.- In what was one of the most exciting games of the year, Augusta freshman
Harris Bachelder connected on a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth as the Jaguars walked-off Lander 4-3 at Jaguar Field.
Bachelder, a freshman from Evans, Ga. hit the first pitch he saw the other way and sent it over the right field wall for the win sending the team into a frenzy as they mobbed him at home plate.Â
The entire game was a thriller as
Nolan Turner hit an early home run to give the Jaguars a 3-0 lead. The Bearcats responded with three runs in the fifth, only to set the stage for the heroics of Bachelder.Â
He would finish the season with six homers, which was tied for third most on the team, but none quite like that one. Afterwards he admitted to basically "blacking out" as he rounded the bases.Â
Two other Augusta area products played significant roles in the win.
Griffin Stewart pitched seven strong innings and
Patrick Matsunaga pitched the final two plus innings for the victory.Â
