AIKEN, S.C. --
Augusta State earned a split Saturday in the second and final day
of the USC Aiken Invitational in Aiken, S.C. The Jaguars (5-2)
defeated St. Andrews 3-0, and then fell 3-1 to Florida Tech.
In game one against St. Andrews, senior Jessica Howard paced the
Jags with 10 kills and four block solos. Also aiding in the win was
sophomore Jessica Hanson, who notched five kills and four service
aces, while junior Chase Lowther tallied 10 digs. Senior Libero
Lindsey Weider added eight digs and sophomore setter Ashley
Zappitell netted 25 assists.
In game two, Howard led the team with 17 kills against Florida
Tech. Freshman Mandy Irizarry notched eight kills, while junior
Dianne Meyer added six kills and 10 digs. Weider had 25 digs and
Lowther added10 digs. Zappitell tallied 35 assists and had four
total blocks.
The Jags return to play next weekend when they travel to Gaffney,
S.C., for the Southeast Crossover Tournament. ASU faces off against
Lenoir-Rhyne and Mount Olive on Friday, Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. and 7
p.m., and then takes on Limestone and Tusculum on Saturday, Sept.
12 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
