AMERICUS, Ga. -- Augusta State swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader from Georgia Southwestern Saturday afternoon at Hurricane Stadium.
The Jaguars, who entered the twinbill in second place in the PBC West Division, improved to 7-4 in the PBC and pulled within a game of .500 overall at 13-14. GSW dropped to 14-12 and 3-5, respectively.
In the opener, ASU's Scott Shipman (4-1) limited the Hurricanes to just one run on four hits in 8.0 innings. The sophomore righthander from Waxhaw, N.C., struck out three and walked four and didn't give up an earned run. Junior righty Wilson Taylor struck out the side in the ninth around a walk and a hit.
In game two, ASU took advantage of four GSW errors and scratched for a pair of runs in the top of the 10th to edge the 'Canes 6-4 and complete the day's sweep.
Andy Onufrak and Ryan Khan each went 3-for-4 and Alex Walker notched two hits and scored a pair of runs. Onufrak, Hanrahan and Khan all drove in runs.
Taylor (3-0) got the win, closing out the game with 2.0 innings of relief in the eighth and ninth innings. Starter Stephen Ramsey struck out five and walked four over the first 5.0 innings. Chase Johnston gave up two runs in 2.0 innings and Aaron Lewis worked a scoreless eighth inning.
