DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- Augusta State battled back to earn a split of its Peach Belt Conference doubleheader with North Georgia Saturday night at Bob Stein Stadium.
ASU sophomore righthander Scott Shipman improved to 7-2 on the season with a complete-game effort in the Jaguars' 3-1 win in game two. He held the Saints to just four hits and an unearned while striking out seven. Senior centerfielder Alex Walker went 2-for-3 and freshman Kevin Dodson had the Jags' lone RBI.
NGCSU senior Daniel Warzon took the loss for the Saints as a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fifth proved to the difference in the game. Warzon pitched 4.2 innings, allowing no earned runs and only one hit, while striking out three.
The Jags (20-25, 10-13 PBC) took their first lead of the game in the top of the second after Jeff Rice scored on a Dodson fielder's choice. The Saints tied the game in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of three ASU errors.
Daniel Warzon entered the game in the top of the fourth for Saints starter Wes Coberly. With runners on first and third with one-out, Warzon pitched Augusta State into an inning-ending double play.
In the top of the fifth, a walk and hit batsman set up the game winning scores. A throwing error on an Augusta State bunt allowed the two runs to score.
North Georgia threatened in the bottom of the sixth with bases loaded and no outs, but could not push any runs across.
The Saints (24-156, 9-14 PBC) pounded out 18 hits in the opener en route to a 15-0 victory.
The two teams will match up in rubber game of the series Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
