AIKEN, S.C. -- USC Aiken scored three runs in the sixth to break a 2-all tie and top Augusta State 6-2 Wednesday night in the second leg of the Outback Cup at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
With the loss, the Jaguars dropped to 20-28 on the season while the Pacers improved to 26-18 overall.
ASU junior Caleb Saggus went 2-for-3 and registered three steals. Jowan Gray, Tyler Bourdo and Stephen Bellantoni had two hits each for the Pacers.
Thomas McLeod (8-4) earned the win in relief, allowing a hit in 1.0 inning of work. ASU junior reliever Chase Johnston (1-1) yielded four hits and three runs in the fifth. The two teams combined to use 12 different pitchers, six for each team.
The Pacers jumped ahead 2-0 in the first on a double by Stephen Carmon and an RBI-single from Tripp Warrick. After a Gray single, JJ Loker's fielder's choice chased home Warrick.
The Jags knotted the game at 2-all in the fifth when senior first baseman Tristan Toorie laced a two-out, RBI-double to the gap in left-center to plate freshman rightfielder Ross Miles, who reached on a leadoff single to right.
USCA pulled ahead 5-2 in the sixth on consecutive singles from Loker, Bourdo and Adam Spires and a Carmon groundout. The Pacers added a run in the eighth on Bellantoni's sacrifice fly.
The Jags wrap up their regular season next Tuesday, April 26, when they host non-conference foe Newberry at 3:00 p.m., at Jaguar Field.
