AUGUSTA, Ga. – Newberry battled back from an early deficit and claimed a 3-1 non-conference road win over Augusta State Tuesday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The loss snapped a string of four straight victories for the Jaguars (7-4), who were riding the momentum of matching the best start in school history with a pair of wins last weekend.
ASU sophomore Kristen Koch paced the squad with 14 kills and senior setter Krystin Wahlig booked 27 assists and 14 digs. Sophomore libero Collette Richards posted 13 digs and seniors Mandy Irizarry and Meredith Berce each managed 11 digs. Sophomore Lauren Alverson chipped in six assists, while Richards had five assists and three service aces.
Samantha Parrish tallied a double-double for the Wolves (7-5) with 16 kills and 23 digs. Jessica King turned in 10 kills and Elayni Stokes produced 18 digs. Blair Browning (24) and Rachel Moran (21) combined for 45 assists.
ASU opens its Peach Belt Conference schedule on the road on Saturday, Sept. 22, traveling to Montevallo, Ala., to take on the Falcons in a 3:00 p.m., match at BankTrust Arena.
