Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The GRU Augusta baseball team dropped game three of the Peach Belt Conference series with Georgia College 18-8 where the Jaguars put up 15 hits to the Bobcats' 18 in the final regular-season game of the 2015 season.
After splitting yesterday's doubleheader, taking the first game 9-6 and dropping the second 10-3, GRU Augusta dropped the final game of its conference series against Georgia College 18-8, ending the season 18-28 overall and 11-18 in the Peach Belt Conference.
"We went toe-to-toe with one of the perennial programs in our conference, and to win game one and try to hang in there and make a comeback in game three," Head Coach Jason Eller said. "We battled and unfortunately it didn't go our way. We've got a few holes to fill, but the future looks bright for the Jaguars. We're going to enjoy the memories we made this year with our seniors and when the sun rises Monday morning, we're going to get started on 2016".
In game three, the Jags fell behind in the first inning when junior Dylan Cook put a ball over the left-center field wall for a grand-slam home run that put Georgia College (29-17, 14-12 PBC) up by four. The Jags didn't let this get them down, putting together a string of two-out hits for a six-run second inning.
Both starting pitchers gave up six runs for six hits in each of their 1.2 innings of work, but none of the Jaguar runs were earned as the Bobcats recorded an error. Tristan Jones logged the 1.2 innings in the start, bur lefty Frank Warren got the loss in 2.1 innings on mound.
In the second, after Conner Gilbert reached on an error and Jim Wagner drew a two-out walk, Cole Thompson (2-3; RBI) stroked a single up the middle to earn his 20th RBI of the season. Kevin Dodson (2-5; RBI) walked to load the bases for Clint Hardy (3-5; three-RBI), who smacked a three-RBI double to center field, bringing his season RBI total to 31. Not to be outdone, earning an RBI each, Drew Taylor (3-5; two-RBI) doubled to left field and Nick Rau (3-5; RBI) earned his 34th RBI on a single to right field, giving the Jags a 6-4 lead.
The Bobcats had a two-RBI homer in the second inning to tie the game, but the Jags went up by one in the fourth on Taylor's second double of the day, plating Hardy and giving Taylor 47 RBI on the season.
Georgia College took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when three base hits and a walk scored two. They had two single-RBI home runs and four hits that brought in four more in the fifth and sixth innings.
In the seventh inning, Rau reached off a single to right field, and scored as Hunter Boose (1-4; RBI) singled to left field for his 21st RBI of the season, but the Jags weren't able to put any more points on the board and fell to the Bobcats 18-8.
Right-handed sophomore Tristan Jones got the start this afternoon, going 1.2 innings before being relieved by junior lefty Frank Warren, who pitched 2.1 innings. The Jags brought Will Robertson, Adam Grice, and Zach Ledbetter to the mound throughout the game as well.
