Box Score GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Jaguars continued their weekend road trip in the Peach Belt Conference and won a five-set battle over the Lander Bearcats on Saturday afternoon.
The Jags moved to 9-3 overall and 3-2 in the PBC, while Lander slid to 11-3 and 3-1 in the league. Four Jags notched double-figure kills led by Rachel Windle's 17. Freshmen Blair Bolton and Savanna Gonzales and junior Jordan Bickett all had 14 kills in the win. Alyssa Latham had a productive day and assisted 53 kills.
The Jaguars' Cat DeSilvester had 31 digs, Latham dug 23 shots, JaNhea Beisner had 14, Bickett had 13, and Kali Boatwright added 12.
Lander won the opening set 27-25, but the Jags responded with a 25-23 victory in the second set to even the match. The Jaguar offense poured it on in set three and seniors Katie Beresford and Alyssa Latham knocked back-to-back kills to seal the win in the third set.
The LU Bearcats outlasted the Jags 25-22 in set four to force the fifth set to decide the match. The Jags held the early advantage in set five and led 9-4 after a Savanna Gonzales kill. Another Beresford kill eventually made it 11-6 and Lander called a timeout.
Out of the break, the Jags produced the final four points to seal the PBC win on the road.
The Jaguars play at UNC Pembroke on Tuesday, Sept. 29 for a 7:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match.
