Augusta Splits Doubleheader with East Stroudsburg

AUGUSTA, Ga, - The Augusta University softball team split a double header against Pennsylvania opponent East Stroudsburg University at Jaguar Field. After a walk-off win in the first game, the Jaguars dropped game 2 with a score of 8-6.

Augusta Softball travels to St. Augustine, FL this Saturday to take on Flagler College in its first conference double header. The games are slated to start at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.

Game 1

Augusta defeated the Warriors 1-0 with a walk-off run to end the game. The won improved the Jaguars to 8-11 on the year and extended their 8 game win streak. East Stroudsburg University fell to 5-10 for the season.

After playing 6 scoreless innings, a single by pitcher Courtney Browne allowed Jada Jackson (who was pinch running) to score at the bottom of the 7th inning.

Third baseman Sydney Tulin went 2-for-3 in the first game of the double header.  Courtney Browne went 1-for-3 with an added RBI. Olivia Biles, Bella Fernandez, and Kelsey Parks all carded hits in the victory.

Parks is the current Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the week. The Snellville native pitched a complete game, striking out 7 batters and allowing 4 hits for no runs. The game marks her 9th start of the season.

Game 2

A huge 7th inning propelled the visiting team propelled the Warriors to an 8-6 victory of the home Jaguars. Both team were fairly even in their hitting in the second game of the non-conference match-up. East Stroudsburg carded 10 hits to Augusta's 9. 

Augusta held a commanding 6-2 lead through the 5th inning. The sixth inning saw the Warriors score once in the 6th inning and then add another 5 runs in the 7th inning.

Sophomore Olivia Biles led the team offensively, going 3-for-4 with 1 added run. Junior Sydney Tulin went 1-for-4 with 3RBI. Junior Megan McCook went 1-for-3 with 1RBI and 1 run scored.

Senior Courtney Browned got the start for the Jags, tossing 6.0 innings where she allowed 8 hits. Katy Caldwell pitched in relied for the Jags to close the game.
