GAINESVILLE, GA -Augusta University tied a Peach Belt Conference men's cross country record with their sixth straight conference championship on Saturday morning at the University of North Georgia Cross Country Course. The Jaguars took the first six places in the race, led by individual champion Avery Jaynes, to finish with a best-possible score of 15 points. Eight Jaguar runners were named All-Conference.
RESULTS
Augusta equals the six straight championships won by Kennesaw State from 1994 to 1999. The Jaguars have now won seven of the last eight PBC titles and nine since 2011.
Flagler was second in the event with 45 points while Georgia College & State University was third and Clayton State fourth.
Jaynes, who was named the PBC Runner of the Year for his regular-season work on Thursday, wins the PBC Individual Championship for the first time in his career. The senior ran the 8k course in 24:51.6, coming in just a second ahead of teammate Jordan Robertson at 24:52.3. Defending PBC Individual Champion Brandon Martin was third in 24:52.7. Tripp Miller rounded out the top five with a time of 24:58.8. Ani Tesfaye added to the team's success, finishing sixth in 25:01.9.
Other Augusta runners also delivered strong performances: Nasrudin Mohamed finished 13th in 25:18.0, while Matthew Moore and Thomas Rischar posted times of 25:21.6 and 25:22.4, respectively. Andrew Todd clocked in at 25:54.7, and Beck Wolf-Hardy completed the course in 25:59.9. Eli Corn and Carter Dehnke finished in 26:28.4 and 26:32.3, respectively, followed by Shahzeb Rashid at 26:56.9 and Benjamin Roberts at 26:58.2.
The top 15 runners were named to the All-Conference team. Augusta's Ani Tesfaye finished in sixth place in a time of 25:01.9 and was the highest-finishing freshman. With that he earns the PBC Freshman of the Year honor, the first Jaguar to capture that since 2021.
Head coach Jacob Burgamy was named the Coach of the Year for the third straight season.
Augusta will compete next at the NCAA Southeast Regionals on Nov. 9 in Spartanburg, SC, aiming for a top-three finish to qualify for the NCAA National Championship in Sacramento, California, on Nov. 23.
