AUGUSTA, GA- For the seventh time in program history, the Augusta University volleyball team is headed to the NCAA tournament and now, final prep work is made before traveling to Wingate, N.C. for the first round match up against Lenoir-Rhyne. The Jaguars are the #4 seed in the Southeast Regional and have a 4:30 p.m. match against the Bears on Friday, Dec. 6.
The senior dominated roster is hoping that tournament experience will pay off this weekend.
"I've been in it since my freshman year, so I've been in it for five years now," said
Madelyn Eden. "I don't think there's another conference as competitive as this so I think it's prepared me and a lot of my teammates for what is to come."
A team always wants to peak for the post season and with the Jaguars posting a runner-up finish in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, they feel they are close, but not quite to that point.
"We're seeing a lot of players stepping up, which is exciting. Mia (Saavedra) is doing some huge things on the outside so we're finding the right pieces in the right places so I think we're ready to go," said
Sophia Kruczko.
The Jaguars finished 20-7 on the year and won eight of their last ten matches to give them the confidence as they head into the tournament.
One key for the post season is also not getting to hyped up. It's not easy knowing what's at stake every time they step to the court.
"There's definitely a balance of that. For me, I try to keep it as just another game and try to attack it and give it everything I can. But I don't want to over-hype it I just want to do what I can do, do what we've been practicing and transfer that," added Kruczko.
