AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over Francis Marion University on Friday at the Newman Tennis Center, improving to 5-1 on the season.
In doubles action, Augusta secured one of the three matches. Arthur Valette and David Perret delivered a dominant 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, but Francis Marion took the doubles point after winning at No. 1 and No. 3. Enzo Garutti and Alexis Bailhache fell 3-6 at No. 1, while Humberto Pinto and Mario Curiel dropped a close 5-7 match at No. 3.
Augusta responded with a strong singles performance, winning five of six matches to claim the team victory. Garutti battled to a 7-6, 5-3 win at No. 1, while Bailhache secured a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2. Pinto earned a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 4, and Perret added a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5. Enzo Sakiyama rounded out Augusta's wins with a 6-4, 6-1 result at No. 6.
Francis Marion picked up its lone singles win at No. 3, where Miguel Maia edged out Valette in a three-set battle, 6-4, 2-6, 6-5.
With the win, Augusta moves to 5-1 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 25, when they host Belmont Abbey at the Newman Tennis Center.
