Deja Moorer Accepts Assistant Coaching Position at Howard University

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University assistant volleyball coach Deja Moorer has accepted the role of second assistant coach at Howard University, a Division I program in Washington, D.C. Moorer departs Augusta after four successful seasons, helping lead the Jaguars to four NCAA Tournament appearances, multiple Peach Belt Conference titles, and a historic Elite Eight berth in 2021.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Augusta," Moorer said. "I have learned and grown so much working next to Coach Quarles for the past four years. Some of the best memories have been made here with my players and colleagues that I will never forget. Although I am going to miss Augusta, I am excited about my next opportunity as a Howard University Bison."

Moorer played an integral role in Augusta's continued rise as a powerhouse in the Southeast Region. In 2021, she helped lead Augusta to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history after capturing the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship for the fourth consecutive season. The following year, the Jaguars earned the No. 2 seed in the Southeast Region, advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time, and secured their first Peach Belt Regular Season title in program history. In 2023, Augusta reached new heights, turning in a program-record 29 wins while claiming both the PBC Regular Season and Tournament titles for the first time. The 2024 squad earned its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance and 10th 20-win season in school history, advancing to the second round of the Southeast Regional.

"We are so excited for Deja that she will take on the new role of second assistant at Howard University," Augusta volleyball head coach Sharon Quarles said. "She is ready to take the next step in her coaching career and face new adventures and challenges. She has been with us for four years and has seen much success and has grown so much in that time as an assistant. It is an exciting time for Deja, and she is ready to embrace it!"

Howard University competes in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and has been a dominant force in the league, winning multiple conference championships. Augusta University Athletics thanks Deja Moorer for her dedication and contributions to the program and wishes her the best in her new role with the Howard Bison.
