ATLANTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's track and field team continued its season at the Emory Spring Break Classic, held March 21–22 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Sprints and Relays
Chris Hart highlighted Augusta's sprint group, running 10.75 in the 100-meter preliminaries to finish 12th overall. Freshman Jalen Belton placed seventh in the 100-meter final with a wind-legal time of 10.99. Devin Barolette (11.13), Michael Meriweather (11.41), and Caine Varnell (11.52) rounded out the team's efforts in the 100 meters.
In the 200 meters, Belton led the Jaguars with a 22.25 finish for 21st overall. Charlie Roberts (22.95), Mykel Thompson (23.27), and Matthew Merisme (24.02) also competed.
Roberts returned in the 400 meters to finish 15th with a time of 50.02. Thompson (50.91) and Varnell (51.72) added strong performances.
The Jaguars placed third in the 4x100-meter relay, as Hart, Barolette, Meriweather, and Belton combined for a time of 41.60.
Middle Distance
In the 800 meters, senior Amir Dayal placed sixth with a time of 1:55.48. Noah Shepherd (1:58.89), David Ajuzie (1:59.23), and Joseph Elbert (2:06.91) also posted solid finishes.
Hurdles
Sawyer Whatley competed in both hurdle events, placing 25th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.12 and 39th in the 110-meter hurdles (19.57).
Jumps and Throws
In the high jump, Mitchell Jean Baptiste cleared 1.90m (6' 2.75") to place fourth. Jalen Belton and David Batts each cleared 1.85m (6' 0.75") for 12th and 14th place finishes, respectively.
Freshman Jiven Maharajh finished 18th in the long jump with a mark of 6.63m (21' 9").
In the throws, Joshua Bowen led the way with a fifth-place finish in the javelin (52.89m / 173' 6") and a 13th-place finish in the discus (40.83m / 133' 11"). Ryan Lee added a 14th-place mark in the javelin (46.36m / 152' 1").
