Augusta Men's Track & Field Finishes Second at Inaugural PBC Indoor Championship, Sets Three Conference Records

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In its inaugural Peach Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship appearance, Augusta University Track & Field delivered a historic performance, finishing second overall with 108 points at the 2026 PBC Indoor Championships on Feb. 23 at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center.

The runner-up finish is the highest team conference finish in program history, including outdoor track & field.

AU's championship performance was highlighted by three conference records and multiple gold medals.

Seth Eye captured the conference title in the 800 meters with a time of 1:50.13, setting a PBC Championship meet record. The performance also met the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard and currently ranks 21st nationally.

Senior Avery Jaynes continued his dominant season by winning the 5,000 meters in 14:31.77, breaking the PBC Championship meet record. Jaynes also placed second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:13.39 to add eight more points to the team total.

Augusta's 4x400-meter relay team of Gabriel Carson, Charlie Roberts, Roberto Barrera, and Dorian Chance closed the meet with a championship performance, winning in 3:16.56 to set an all-time PBC record.

The Jaguars scored heavily in the sprint events. Junior Chris Hart finished second in the 60 meters in 6.81 to earn eight points, while freshman Kobe Mitchell added three points with a sixth-place finish in 6.98. Devin Barolette and Gabriel Carson also competed in the event.

In the 200 meters, Barolette placed 10th (22.33), Logan Wynn finished 12th (22.53), and Mitchell competed but did not finish.

Augusta's depth in the 400 meters proved critical in the team race. Carson led the group with a fifth-place finish in 48.85, followed by Roberts in sixth (48.90) and Barrera in seventh (49.00). Dylan Poole (49.57), Dorian Chance (49.69), and Mykel Thompson (49.71) also competed.

Behind Eye's victory in the 800 meters, Noah Shepherd placed eighth in 1:55.57 to add a point.

In the mile, Gabriel Best finished fifth in 4:16.32, Jackson Musto placed sixth in 4:16.44, Noah Shepherd added another point with an eighth-place finish in 4:18.98, and Oscar Curry competed in the event.

The distance crew continued to stack points in the 3,000 meters as Best finished sixth (8:30.33), Nasrudin Mohamed placed seventh (8:31.39), Andrew Helfers finished 10th (8:37.77), and Curry ran 8:48.51.

In addition to Jaynes' win in the 5,000 meters, Mohamed placed fourth (14:45.78), Helfers finished fifth (14:50.53), and Eli Corn earned a point with an eighth-place finish in 15:12.43.

Ragiariki Lewis added a podium finish in the 60-meter hurdles, placing third in 8.26.

In the field events, Mitchell Jean Baptiste earned six points with a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.94 meters (6-4.25). Cory Dekle scored in both horizontal jumps, placing seventh in the long jump (6.48m / 21-3.25) and eighth in the triple jump (12.90m / 42-4). Jackson Evans added a point in the long jump with an eighth-place finish.

In the throws, Joshua Bowen placed sixth in the shot put with a mark of 13.98 meters (45-10.5), while Tra'Vontae Smith finished eighth with a throw of 13.80 meters (45-3.5). Michael Chatman competed in the weight throw.

With three conference records and three event titles, the Jaguars closed their inaugural indoor championship season with the highest team finish in program history and now turn their attention to the outdoor season.
