AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University indoor track and field competed at the Camel City Sprints and Camel City Distance meets on Feb. 6-7 at JDL Fast Track, posting strong performances across sprint and distance events against a deep field of Division I and Division II competition.
Sophomore Josalyn Branch highlighted the sprint group with a time of 7.83 in the 60 meters, which currently stands as the fastest mark in the Peach Belt Conference this season. Branch also competed in the seeded 200 meters, running 26.07.
Freshman Madison Mitchell also competed in both events, running 7.97 in the 60 and posting a 26.59 in the seeded 200.
Freshman Ava Adams recorded Augusta's top finish in the 400 meters, placing 14th overall with a time of 1:00.80. Adams also ran 26.30 in the 200 meters. Freshman Thanna Davis competed in both the 200 and 400, running 26.56 in the 200 and 59.40 in the seeded 400.
In the field events, sophomore Nene Akaose led Augusta in the long jump with a mark of 5.23 meters (17-2).
The Jaguars followed with a strong showing in the Camel City Distance meet on Feb. 7. Junior Grace Gyetko placed 17th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.44, while freshman Brie Andrews finished 18th in 2:23.72.
In the 3,000 meters, freshman Gabby Jourdain led Augusta with an eighth-place finish in 10:17.70. Junior Madison Thomas added a 15th-place performance, crossing the line in 10:22.53.
The Jaguars return to action Feb. 13-14, splitting squads between the Tryon Mid Winter Invitational in Mill Spring, N.C., and the David Hemery Valentine Invite in Boston, Mass.
