AUGUSTA, Ga.
-Georgia College and State swept Augusta State in a
conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Jaguar Field. The
Bobcats took game one 3-2 in eight innings and then took game two
4-3.
The twinbill marked the PBC schedule opener for both teams.
With the win, the Lady Bobcats improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in
conference play. The loss dropped ASU to 4-2 overall and 0-2 in the
league.
Freshman Sara DeMuth (1-1) got the loss in game one pitching all
eight innings and giving up only eight hits. In game two, sophomore
Jennifer Miller (1-1) got the loss, putting in 3.2 innings with
five hits and no walks. Junior Kimberly Kennedy relieved Miller in
the fourth, giving up three hits with one strikeout.
Senior Mandy Chandler received the win in game one pitching all
eight innings, giving up only four hits and had 11 strikeouts. In
game two, freshman Haley Burnett went 1.0 inning while giving up
two hits and had two strikeouts. Chandler relieved Burnett in the
second, earning the win with six strikeouts.
Freshman Jessica Thornton (pictured left) paced the Jags
offensively with a 3-for-6 afternoon, including 2-for-2 in the
second game. Freshman Kacee Camp went 1-for-3 in game one, while
freshman Kristen Jones went 2-for-4 in game two.
In game one the score was 2-2, until the eight innings when Kori
Pickowitz hit a single that drove in Chelsea Wilson to win the
game.
In game two, the Lady Jaguars were up 2-0, until Kayla Smith
homered bringing in three RBI to put the Lady Bobcats ahead
3-2.
The Jaguars return to play Saturday Feb. 14, when they host Lenoir
Rhyne in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at noon at Jaguar
Field.
