AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State jumped out to a
10-0 lead and never trailed en route to an 80-53 Peach Belt
Conference victory over Lander Wednesday night in Christenberry
Fieldhouse.
The victory improved No. 9 ASU to 18-4 overall and to 12-3 in the
Peach Belt Conference. With Georgia College & State's
68-60 home loss to Armstrong Atlantic State, the Jaguars moved into
first place in the PBC, a half-game ahead of GCSU in the league
standings.
The victory was the fifth straight for ASU in the series with
Lander. The Jags, who led by as many as 36 in the second half,
extended their PBC home winning streak to 13 games.
Senior center Garret Siler booked a game-high 14 points while
redshirt freshman guard Tye Beal tallied a career-high 12 points
off the bench. PBC scoring leader Ben Madgen and sophomore guard
Caleb Brown netted 10 points each. Senior center Jason Killeen
grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and blocked three shots, while
Madgen handed out five assists.
Ford Lawrence led Lander (9-11, 5-9 PBC) with nine points.
The Jags, who entered the contest ranked 10th in the nation in
field goal percentage, shot 50 percent from the field and set a
season-high with 43 bench points while their seven turnovers marked
a new season-low.
ASU travels to Savannah, Ga., on Saturday, Feb. 14 for a key PBC
showdown with Armstrong Atlantic State. Game time is set for 4:00
p.m., in Alumni Arena.
