AUGUSTA, Ga.
-Augusta State split with Lenoir-Rhyne in a non-conference
doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Field.
In game one, Augusta State plated two runs in the bottom of the
fourth to take the lead 2-0. Lenoir-Rhyne came back in the top of
the seventh and tied with a double. The Bears then took the lead in
the top of the eight and went on to win 3-2.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Noel Belk (2-0) earned the win pitching eight
innings giving up seven hits and had four strikeouts. The Jags'
Sara Demuth (2-2) received the loss booking eight strikeouts.
In game two, the Lady Jags jumped out in the bottom of the first
and took the 4-0. Lenoir-Rhyne fought back in the top of the third
bringing the score to 4-3. ASU added another run in the third with
a squeeze from Alysha Krier, scoring Jessica Thornton.
In the fifth inning, Lenoir-Rhyne answered back with a double from
Erin Evans scoring Brittney Furr, making the score 5-4. In the
bottom of the fifth, Kayla Adams doubled scoring Krier to take the
win for the Lady Jags, 6-4.
ASU Sophomore Jennifer Miller (2-1) started game two going 3
innings and gave up five hits with one strikeout. Junior Kimberly
Kennedy (2-0) came in for Miller in the fourth and received the
win, giving up six hit and had four strikeouts.
Krier paced the Jags offensively with a 3-for-5 afternoon,
including 2-for-2 with three RBI in game two. Freshman Kacee Camp
went 2-for-3 in game one, while junior Kayla Hicks had two hits on
the day.
The Jaguars return to play Wednesday Feb.18, when they travel to
Greenwood, S.C. to play in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader
against Lander beginning at 2:00 p.m.
