DECATUR, Ala.
-Augusta State earned a split on Friday in the first day
of the Charger Chillout, hosted by the Alabama-Huntsville.
Fourth-ranked Barry limited ASU to three hits and edged the Jaguars
1-0. ASU freshman Sara DeMuth (2-3) suffered the loss despite
striking out five and surrendering only four hits. The Buccaneers
scored the only run in the top of the second.
Senior Angii Verbeelen and juniors Kayla Hicks and Alysha Krier
combined for the Jags' three hits.
ASU bounced back with an 8-4 victory over Lynn in game two Friday
afternoon. Verbeelen and freshman Jessica Thornton posted two hits
each while sophomore Alyssa Pingree jacked her first homer of the
season, a two-run shot in the second inning, to give the Jags a 2-1
lead.
Lynn moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the third before ASU answered in
the bottom half of the inning, converting a pair of doubles, two
errors and two wild pitches into five runs.
ASU sophomore Jennifer Miller improved to 3-1 on the season,
allowing four hits and three hits with a strikeout and two walks.
Junior Kimberly Kennedy earned her first save of the season with
3.0 innings of relief, giving up three hits and one run.
The Jaguars (8-4) take on Kentucky Wesleyan at 10:00 a.m., Saturday
before facing West Alabama at 2:30 p.m.
