DUE WEST, S.C
– Augusta State pounded out 16 hits but it wasn't
enough as the Jaguars dropped a 12-10 non-conference decision to
Erskine Tuesday afternoon at Grier Field.
Senior Kevin Owens and juniors Tony Baker, Evan Smith and Shannon
Wilkerson collected three hits each. Wilkerson jacked his
team-leading seventh home run of the season with a solo shot in the
ninth inning and scored and drove in three runs. Sophomore
centerfielder Alex Walker and sophomore catcher Alex Sickman each
had a pair of RBI and Owens slapped a solo homer.
Freshman righthander Wilson Taylor earned the start and allowed
four hits and five earned runs in 3.0 innings. Freshman Chase
Johnston gave up four hits and a pair of runs in 2.0 innings.
Senior lefty Adam Mathis (0-2) took the loss, yielding three hits
and four runs in 2.1 innings. Sophomore righty Stephen Ramsey
closed out the ninth for the Jags, recording the final two
outs.
ASU outslugged Erskine 16-12, but allowed the Flying Fleet to score
in each of the last six innings.
ASU travels to Milledgeville, Ga., over the weekend to face Georgia
College & State in a three-game Peach Belt Conference series.
The Jags and Bobcats meet in a single game on Friday, Feb. 27 at
3:00 p.m., and square off in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 28 at
12:30 p.m.
