AUGUSTA, Ga.
-Augusta State swept Francis Marion 11-2 in five innings
and 6-0 on Wednesday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference
doubleheader at Jaguar Field.
With the win, the Lady Jaguars improved to 12-6 overall and 2-2 in
the conference. The loss dropped Francis Marion to 12-3 overall and
0-2 in league.
Augusta State combined for 19 hits and 17 runs scored and held the
Patriots to only five hits on the day.
Sophomore Jennifer Miller (3-1) and freshman Sarah DeMuth each
recorded wins for the Jags. Miller held the Patriots to only three
hits and two runs in game one, with four strikeouts.
Freshman Kacee Camp paced the Jags offensively with a 3-for-5
afternoon, including 2-for-3 in game one. Camp had seven RBI with
two homers. Freshman Kristen Jones was 4-for-5 on the day with two
RBI, while freshman Jessica Thornton went 2-for-3 in game two with
one RBI. Junior Catcher Alysha Krier went 3-for-5 on the afternoon
with a homer in game two.
In game one, Francis Marion jumped out on top with a two run homer
from freshman Ashley Jaramillo in the top of the first. ASU
answered back in the bottom of the first with a grand slam from
Camp, scoring Jones, Thornton and Krier. The Lady Jags scored every
inning following the first inning.
In game two, ASU jumped out on top in the bottom of the first with
a homer from Krier. Camp added two more runs with homerun to
leftfield, scoring Jones. ASU went on to take a 6-0 victory over
Francis Marion.
The Jaguars (7-3) travel to Salisbury, N.C., this weekend to
compete in the Catawba Tournament hosted by Catawba. ASU opens
tourney play against California (Pa) on Friday, Feb. 27 at 2:00
p.m.
