AUGUSTA, Ga.
-Augusta State swept Wingate 2-0 and 2-1 in a
non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Jaguar
Field.
With the win, the Lady Jaguars improved to 14-11 overall and 2-2 in
the conference, while Wingate dropped to 14-5-1 on the season.
For the Jags, Sophomore Jennifer Miller and junior Kimberly Kennedy
both received wins on the afternoon. Miller (5-4) gave up only two
hits and booked three strikeouts in seven innings of work. Freshman
Emily Corish started game two, and gave up one run on three hits
and had three strikeouts. Kennedy relieved Corish in the fifth, and
gave up only two hits with three strikeouts.
Freshman Kacee Camp paced the Jags offensively with a 3-for-5
afternoon and was 2-for-3 in game two with two RBI. Senior Angii
Verbeelen went 3-for-7, while freshman Jessica Thornton had three
hits on the day. Juniors Alysha Krier and Kayla Hicks each had a
safety.
In game two, the Jags went into extra innings, with the score being
1 all. Camp scored the game winning run, with a single to right
field, scoring junior Leann Barber.
ASU is back in action on Thursday, March 12, when they travel to
Dahlonega, Ga. for a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader with North
Georgia. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
