AIKEN, S.C. – Augusta State fell 10-5 and
11-5 to USC Aiken on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday evening in a
two-game non-conference series at Hernandez Stadium in Aiken,
S.C.
With the loss, the Jaguars dropped to 14-13 overall and 3-3 in
the conference, while USC Aiken improved to 15-12 on the
season.
For the Jags in game one, freshman Wilson Taylor (0-2) received
the loss, lasting 6.0 innings, giving up eight hits and had one
strikeout. Sophomore Stephen Ramsey relieved Taylor in the seventh
and pitched 1.0 innings. Ramsey gave up four runs on five hits with
a strikeout. Freshman Robbie Downing came in during the eighth and
had three strikeouts and allowed no hits.
In game two, freshman Chase Johnston earned the start, lasting
3.0 innings, giving up one run on two hits. Sophomore Scott
Strickland (2-1) received the loss, relieving Johnston in the
fourth. Strickland gave up four runs on fours hits and had a
strikeout.
In game one, USC Aiken limited ASU to five hits. Seniors Matt
Debes and Kevin Owens, junior Shannon Wilkerson, sophomore Tristan
Toorie and freshman Adam King each got a safety in game one
In game two of the series, senior Jorge Virguez paced the Jags
going 3-for-4 on the evening. Wilkerson, Owens, senior Tim
Rawlings, juniors Tony Baker and Evan Smith, and sophomore Alex
Walker each had one hit on the day.
ASU hosts Lander over the weekend a three-game Peach Belt
Conference series at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The Jags and Braves
meet in a single game on Saturday, March 21 at 2:00 p.m., and then
square off in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 22 at 12:30 p.m.
