AUGUSTA, Ga.
– Augusta State defeated No. 13 Lander on Saturday afternoon
in game one of the three-game Peach Belt Conference series at Lake
Olmstead Stadium.
With the win, the Jaguars improved to 15-13 overall and 4-3 in the
conference, while Lander dropped to 18-8 on the season and 4-4 in
the league.
For the Jags, senior Chris Tyler (3-1) earned the win, pitching a
complete game and only allowed eight Bearcat hits. Tyler booked
seven strikeouts and gave up only one walk.
Seven different Jags had hits on the day. Senior Jorge Virquez and
juniors Shannon Wilkerson, Evan Smith and Tony Baker each had a hit
on the day and an RBI. Senior Kevin Owens and sophomores Tristan
Toorie and Alex Walker each had a safety on the day.
ASU concludes the three-game series with Lander tomorrow, as the
two square off in a doubleheader at Lake Olmstead Stadium. First
pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
