AUGUSTA, Ga.
– Augusta State topped West Georgia 9-3 on Wednesday
afternoon in non-conference matchup at Jaguar Field.
With the win, the Jaguars improved to 17-15 overall and 5-4 in the
conference, while West Georgia fell to 9-18 on the season.
For the Jags, freshman Wilson Taylor (2-2) earned the win, pitching
eight innings. Taylor allowed only one earned run on seven hits,
and had seven strikeouts. Sophomore Patrick Lowe relieved Taylor in
the ninth, and gave up one run on one hit and struck out a
batter.
Senior Jorge Virquez and junior Shannon Wilkerson paced the Jags
offensively with a 2-for-5 afternoon with two RBI and each slapping
out a homer. Sophomore Tristan Toorie had two hits on the day,
while senior Kevin Owens had a safety with two RBI on the
afternoon.
ASU takes on Georgia Southwester over the weekend in a three-game
Peach Belt Conference series in Americus, Ga. The Jags and
'Canes meet in a single game on Saturday, March 28 at 6:00
p.m., and then square off in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 29 at
1:00 p.m.
