AUGUSTA, Ga.
– Georgia Southwestern trailed the Jaguars in game one, but
came back in the ninth for an 11-10 win. In the nightcap, the
Hurricanes pulled out a 9-6 victory to sweep a doubleheader from
Augusta State University Sunday evening in Peach Belt Conference
action.
With the loss, the Jaguars dropped to 17-17 overall and 5-6 in the
conference, while Georgia Southwestern improved to 14-21 on the
season and 6-8 in the league.
For the Jags in game one, senior lefty Chris Tyler earned the start
and lasted 6.0 innings. Tyler allowed eight runs on 10 hits, and
had two strikeouts. Freshman Chase Johnston (2-2) received the
loss, and gave up two runs on three hits and struck out a
batter.
In game two, Sophomore Scott Strickland (2-3) was dealt the loss
and lasted 3.1 innings. Strickland gave up 6 earned runs on eight
hits and booked four strikeouts. Sophomore Robbie Downing relieved
Strickland in fourth and gave up one run on three hits with one
strikeout in 2.2 innings of work. Sophomore Stephen Ramsey came in
for relief for Downing and pitched 2.0 innings. Ramsey allowed one
run on one hits and struck out two.
Sophomore Alex Walker the Jags offensively with a 6-for-10
afternoon, including 4-for-5 in game one, and had three RBI. Junior
Shannon Wilkerson was 5-for-9 on the day with three RBI, while
senior Jorge Virguez and Junior Evan Smith each five hits on the
afternoon. Seniors Kevin Owens and Tim Rawlings each had three
safeties on the day, and Sophomore Alex Sickman slapped out his
first homerun of the season.
The Jags are back in action tomorrow, March 30, at 1:00 p.m. when
they close out their three-game PBC series with Georgia
Southwestern in Americus, Ga.
