ASU Rallies Past Crusaders

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State pounded out 16 hits to rally past Belmont Abbey 13-12 in a non-conference game at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, the Jaguars improved to 9-9 overall and 1-2 in the conference, while the loss dropped Belmont Abbey to 9-10 overall.

Junior Shannon Wilkerson paced the Jaguars with a 4-for-5 afternoon, with a double and two RBI. Sophomore centerfielder Alex Walker had three hits on the day and a pair of RBI. Seniors Tim Rawlings, Jorge Virguez, junior Tony Baker and sophomore Tristan Toorie collected two hits each. Baker slapped out a triple and a double, while Toorie drove in three RBI.

Freshman righthander Wilson Taylor earned the start, allowing six hits and two earned runs in 4.2 innings. Sophomore Patrick Lowe (2-2) earned the win, shutting down the Crusaders in 1.1 innings, allowing no hits and booking a strikeout.

ASU hosts UNC Pembroke over the weekend a three-game Peach Belt Conference series at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The Jags and Braves square off in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 7 at 1:00 p.m., and then meet in a single game on Sunday, March 8 at 1:00 p.m.
