AUGUSTA, Ga.
-Augusta State defeated West Georgia and fell to West
Alabama and North Alabama in the first day of play in the Wolves
Invitational hosted by West Georgia.
ASU opened the tournament with a 10-9 victory over West Georgia.
Freshman Sara DeMuth (5-5) earned the win in game one pitching 4.2
innings, allowing seven hits with two strikeouts. Junior Kimberly
Kennedy (3-0) came in to relieve DuMuth in the fifth. Kacee Camp
paced the Jags offensively with a 4-for-4 effort at the plate.
DeMuth slapped out her first collegiate homerun which was a grand
slam.
In game two, ASU fell to West Alabama 3-1 in eight innings.
Sophomore Jennifer Miller (4-2) received the loss, despite giving
up only three hits and booking six strikeouts. Pacing the Jags in
game two was Camp and DuMuth going 2-for-4.
In game three, the Lady Jags battled back, but fell short to North
Alabama 7-6. Freshman Emily Corish (0-1) made her first start of
the year, but received the loss pitching 3.2 innings. Kennedy
relieved Corish in the fourth and allowed only one run. Senior
Angii Verbeelen, junior Alysha Krier and freshman Jessica Thornton
each tallied two hits.
The Jaguars (13-10) are back in action tomorrow when they take on
IUPUI at 10:00 a.m. and Alabama-Huntsville at 2:00 p.m. in the
final day of the Wolves Invitational.
