AUGUSTA, Ga.
– Augusta State topped UNC Pembroke 8-5 in the final game of
the three-game Peach Belt Conference series on Sunday afternoon at
Lake Olmstead Stadium.
With the win, the Jaguars improved to 11-10 on the season and 3-2
in the conference, while the loss dropped UNC Pembroke to 16-6
overall and 2-3 in the league.
Senior lefty Ben Dukes (3-1) earned the win giving up seven hits in
6.0 innings, with three strikeouts. Sophomore Patrick Lowe recorded
his second save of the season, relieving Dukes in seventh. Lowe
gave up one run on two hits and booked four strikeouts in three
innings of work.
Senior Tim Rawlings paced the Jags offensively with a 3-for-4
afternoon and drove in three runs. Juniors Tony Baker and Shannon
Wilkerson each knocked out homers. Freshman Dwight Ashe had two
safeties, while seniors Jorge Virguez, Kevin Owens, and sophomore
Tristan Toorie each had a hit on the day.
UNC Pembroke jumped out on top in the first inning scoring two
runs, with a homer from senior Kevin Dietrich and an RBI from
junior Jordan Pegram, scoring Seth Kivett. Augusta State answered
back in the first with a single from Rawlings, scoring sophomore
Alex Walker.
ASU rallied back in the third, with a double from Rawlings scoring
Wilkerson and Walker. The Jags would go on to take the game,
8-5.
The Jags are back in action on Tuesday, March 10, for a
non-conference matchup against West Liberty at Lake Olmstead
Stadium. First Pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
