NEWBERRY, S.C.
– Augusta State dropped to Newberry, 5-4 on Wednesday night
in a non-conference matchup in Newberry, S.C.
With the loss, the Jaguars dropped to 18-19 overall and 6-6 in the
conference, while Newberry improved to 12-15 on the season.
Freshman Chase Johnston earned the start and lasted 4.1 innings.
Johnston gave up four runs on 9 hits and booked four strikeouts.
Sophomore Scott Strickland (2-4) received the loss and allowed one
run on three hits with four strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.
For the Jags offensively, senior Tim Rawlings was 3-for-5 with a
double, a triple and an RBI. Junior Shannon Wilkerson was 2-for-4
on the afternoon, while senior Jorge Virguez had a safety on the
day.
ASU hosts North Georgia over the weekend in a three-game Peach Belt
Conference series. The Jags and Saints square off in doubleheader
on Saturday, April 4 at 12:30 p.m., and then meet in a single game
on Sunday, April 5 at 1:00 p.m.
