COLUMBUS, Ga. -
Augusta State sweeps Columbus State 1-0 and 3-1 on Friday afternoon
in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Lady Cougar Field in
Columbus, Ga.
With the win, the Lady Jaguars improved to 28-17 overall and 9-7 in
the league, while the loss dropped Columbus State to 27-28 on the
season and 9-9 in the conference.
Freshman Sara DeMuth (10-8) earned the win in game one pitching a
complete game. DuMuth only allowed two Lady Cougar hits and booked
eight strikeouts.
In game two, freshman Emily Corish (3-1) received the win and
pitched 5.2 innings. Corish gave up only one run on eight hits and
had four strikeouts before sophomore Jennifer Miller came in for
relief in the sixth. Miller allowed no hits and had a strikeout.
Junior Kimberly Kennedy relieved Miller in the seventh and gave up
only one hit with a strikeout.
Freshman Kacee Camp paced the Jags offensively with a 3-for-5
afternoon, including 2-for-2 in game one. Freshman Kristen Jones
was 1-for-3 in game one and scored the only run on the game, while
senior Angii Verbeelen and juniors Alysha Krier and Kayla Adams had
a pair of safeties and drove in an RBI. Junior Kayla Hicks also had
two hits on the day.
The Lady Jaguars travel to Greenwood, S.C., on Monday, April 13 to
take on the Lander Bearcats in a Peach Belt Conference
doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m.
