AIKEN, S.C.
– USC Aiken swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader from
Augusta State Saturday at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The Pacers won
game one, 3-2, before taking an 8-5 win in the second game.
USC Aiken's Ken Raborn belted
his seventh home run of the year in the bottom of the eighth inning
to give the Pacers the go-ahead run.
Chad Benefield closed the door on
the Jags in the ninth by retiring the side in order, earning his
first save of the season.
ASU senior lefty Chris Tyler (4-2)
fanned four Pacers in his eight innings.
Cody McMorris led the Pacers
offensively, going 3-for-4 and was one of three Pacers with
multiple hits.
Tristan Torrie paced the Jags with
a pair of hits.
In game two, the Pacers jumped
ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first and added four runs in the
fourth for a 6-0 lead.
After Aiken scratched for a run in
the fifth for a 7-0 lead, ASU rallied for five runs in the seventh
to get within two.
Jamie Benjamin's solo homer
in the eighth accounted for the final scoring.
ASU senior lefty Ben Dukes was
charged with six earned runs, six walks and four hits in 3.2
innings.
Toorie once again led the Jags
offensively, going 3-for-5 with a run scored.
ASU dropped to 20-23 overall and 8-10 in conference play, while
USCA improved to 29-14 and 13-8, respectively.
