AUGUSTA, Ga.
– Augusta State topped Newberry 15-1 on Wednesday afternoon
in a non-conference matchup at Jaguar Field.
With the win, the Jaguars improved to 21-24 overall and 8-10 in the
Peach Belt Conference, while the loss dropped Newberry to 16-19 on
the season.
Sophomore Patrick Lowe (3-4) earned the win and lasted 7.0 innings.
Lowe allowed only one run on eight hits with six strikeouts and
gave up no walks. Junior Tony Baker relieved Lowe in the eighth and
only gave up one hit and had two strikeouts in 2.0 innings of
work.
Senior Tim Rawlings paced the Jags offensively with a 2-for-4
afternoon with three RBI. Junior Tony Baker was 2-for-4 and drove
in two runs on the day. Seniors Kevin Owens and Jorge Virguez,
junior Shannon Wilkerson and sophomore Alex Walker each had two
hits on the day and an RBI, while freshman Robbie Downing slapped
out his first homer of the season.
ASU travels to Florence, S.C. over the weekend to take on USC Aiken
a three-game Peach Belt Conference series. The Jags and Pacers meet
in a single game on Saturday, April 18 at 3:00 p.m., and then
square off in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 19 at 12:30 p.m.
