FLORENCE, S.C. -
In day two of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, Augusta State
dealt Georgia College and State their second loss of the tournament
with a 6-0 victory in game 15 on Saturday afternoon. Augusta State
then took on Francis Marion in game 16 and fell 3-1, dealing the
Lady Jaguars their second loss and knocking them out of the PBC
Tournament. Augusta State received their first loss of the
tournament earlier in day to North Georgia, 3-1.
The Lady Jaguars are now to 32-19 on the season.
In game one against Georgia College & State, ASU jumped out on
top in the second inning with homer from Jessica Thornton. The Lady
Jags then plated another run with a double from Kacee Camp scoring
Angii Verbeelen.
The score remained 2-0 until the top of seventh when ASU added four
more runs to the board. Verbeelen singled up the middle scoring
Leann Barber. A single from Kristen Jones scored Verbeelen and
Camp. Thornton then singled up the middle and driving in Jones to
make the score 6-0.
In game one, freshman Emily Corish (6-1) earned the win pitching
6.0 innings. Corish only allowed two hits and had a strikeout.
Junior Kimberly Kennedy relieved Corish in the sixth and gave up
only one hit.
Jones and Thornton each had two hits with two RBI in game one,
while Verbeelen booked two hits and an RBI. Camp, Barber and Kayla
Adams each had a safety.
In game two against Francis Marion, ASU jumped out early in the
bottom of the first with single up the middle from Camp scoring
Verbeelen.
Francis Marion answered back in the top of the second scoring on a
wild pitch. The Patriots plated another run with a single up the
middle from Kat Beauvais driving in Kayla Ruede making the score
2-1. The Patriots would add another run in the fifth and take a 3-1
victory over The Lady Jags.
Corish (6-2) received the loss and lasted 1.1 innings. Corish
allowed two runs on one hit. Sophomore Jennifer Miller relieved
Corish in the second and allowed one run on five hits. Kennedy
relieved Miller in the sixth and gave up three hits and struck out
two.
Camp and Verbeelen each were 2-for-3 in game two with Camp driving
in the Jags only run. Freshman Sara DeMuth also had a hit.
