AUGUSTA, Ga. -
Augusta State University split with The Lady Pacers on Tuesday
afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Jaguar
Field.
With the split, Augusta State moves to 26-17 overall and 7-7 in the
Peach Belt Conference, while USC Aiken moves to 29-12 on the season
and 11-7 in the league.
In game one, The Lady Pacers jumped out early with a homer from
Jessica Strickland in the first to take a 1-0 lead. USC Aiken had
the lead until the bottom of the sixth, when Alyssa Pingree put
down a squeeze to score Kristen Jones. Sara DeMuth would then score
on a wild pitch to give ASU a 2-1 lead and the victory.
In game two, USC Aiken jumped out early again and put three runs on
the board. ASU then fought back in the fifth with a double from
Jessica Thornton, scoring Krier and Verbeelen to tie the game
3-all.
The score remained tied until the 10th inning, when Jennifer Day
smashed out a homer to take the lead 4-3 and the win.
Freshman Sara DeMuth (9-8) received the win in game one pitching a
complete game. DeMuth allowed only one run on three hits and booked
12 strikeouts.
In game two, Emily Corish earned the start, but was relieved by
sophomore Jennifer Miller in the first. Miller allowed one run on
four hits and had two strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work. DeMuth was
tagged with the loss giving up one run on two hits in 5.0 innings
of work.
Freshman Kacee Camp paced The Lady Jags offensively with a 4-for-8
afternoon and drove in an RBI. Freshman Jessica Thornton was
3-for-8 on the day and knocked in two RBI. Senior Angii Verbeelen
and junior Alysha Krier each had three hits on the afternoon.
The Lady Jaguars are back in action on Friday, April 10 when they
take on Columbus State in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader in
Columbus, Ga. First pitched is slated for 1:00 p.m.
