AUGUSTA, Ga.
– Augusta State rallied past Georgia College on Sunday
afternoon in the rubber game of the three-game Peach Belt
Conference series in Milledgeville, Ga.
With the win, Augusta State improved to 25-30 on the season and
11-16 in the league, while Georgia College dropped to 37-16 overall
and 16-11 in the conference.
ASU jumped out on top in second inning with a single from Alex
Sickman scoring Alex Walker. GCSU responded in the bottom of the
third with four runs to take a 4-1 lead over the Jaguars.
The Jaguars would make the score 4-all in the top of the fourth
with a two-run homer from Sickman and a solo homerun from
Wilkerson.
The Bobcats had a big fifth inning plating eight runs to take the
lead 8-6. The Jaguars rallied back in the seventh with another
two-run homer from Sickman and a solo homerun from Jorge Virguez to
take a 9-8 victory over GCSU.
Senior Chris Tyler earned the start and lasted 4.2 innings. Tyler
gave up eight runs on nine hits while striking out two. Relieving
Tyler in the fifth was sophomore Patrick Lowe (3-5), who earned the
win. Lowe allowed only three hits and had a strikeout. Junior Tony
Baker got the save, relieving Lowe in the ninth and allowed no
hits.
Sophomore Alex Sickman paced the Jags offensively with three hits,
five RBI, and two homers on the day. Senior Jorge Virguez had three
hits and two RBI, while junior Evan Smith and sophomores Alex
Walker and Tristan Toorie each had two safeties on the day.
