Augusta State opened up there 2010 regular season on Thursday
afternoon against Wingate in non-conference action in Wingate, N.C.
The Bulldogs swept the Jags 4-3 in game one and 3-0 in game
two.
With the loss, the Jaguars dropped to 0-2 overall, while the
Bulldogs improved to 4-1 on the season.
ASU senior Kimberly Kennedy took the loss in game one and fell to
0-1 on the season. In three-plus innings, she gave up four earned
runs on six hits. She recorded three strikeouts and two walks. Five
different Jaguars each had one hit on the afternoon in the first
game.
Leyila Myers and Emily Chavis had two hits each for the Bulldogs in
game one. Five Jaguars had one hit each. Brittany Blankenship (1-0
overall) was the victor, notching a complete game. In seven
innings, she allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits. She
struck out six and walked two.
In game two, ASU sophomore Sara DeMuth allowed three runs (one
earned) in six innings of work, while striking out seven and
walking four. DeMuth falls to 0-1 overall.
For Wingate, Allison Smith threw a no-hitter against the Jags, as
she improved to 1-0 overall on the season. Gina Ager and Brittany
Barrineau each had two hits in game two.
ASU is back in action tomorrow when they travel to Hickory, N.C. to
take on Lenoir-Rhyne in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch
is slated for 2:00 p.m.
