AUGUSTA, Ga. - The
Augusta State Jaguars swept the West Georgia Wolves in a
non-conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Jaguar Field. ASU
won the first game, 5-0, and the second, 3-2, in eight innings.
With the win, the Jaguars improved to 2-2 overall, while the Wolves
dropped to 2-4 on the season.
ASU sophomore Sara DeMuth earned the win in game one and improved
to 1-1 on the season. DeMuth pitched all seven innings and gave up
only one hit and struck out nine batters.
Sophomore Kristen Jones and freshman Laura Brown paced the Jags
offensively in game one with two hits each, while sophomore Jessica Thornton had a hit and drove in three runs. Sophomore Lindsay
Ellenburg had the Wolves only hit in game one.
In game two, sophomore Emily Corish started the game and gave up
only one unearned run on four hits in four plus innings of work.
Senior Kimberly Kennedy relieved Corish in the fifth and received
the win, improving to 1-1 on the season. Kennedy gave up one run on
two hits and struck out three batters.
For the Jags in game two, senior Beth Gerlach and sophomore Kacee Camp each had two hits, while seniors Leann Barber and Alysha Krier
and Brown each had a hit.
West Georgia tied the game at 2-all in the seventh inning and sent
the game into extra innings. After holding the Wolves scoreless at
the top of the eighth, a sac bunt from Krier moved Brown over to
third for the Jags in the bottom of the inning. A single to
rightfield from Camp would score Brown and gave the Jags a 3-2
vitcory over the West Georgia.
The Jags will be back in action Friday, Feb. 19 for the UAH
Tournament in Decatur, Ala. The first game will be against
Arkansas- Monticello beginning at 10:00 a.m.
