AUGUSTA, Ga. - The
Augusta State Jaguars swept Francis Marion in their Peach Belt
Conference opener on Thursday afternoon at Jaguar Field. The
Jaguars topped the Patriots 2-0 in game one and 2-0 in game
two.
With the win, the Jaguars improved to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the
league, while Francis Marion dropped to 8-4 on the season and 2-2
in the conference.
ASU sophomore Sara DeMuth earned the win in game one and improved
to 5-1 on the season. DeMuth pitched all seven innings and gave up
only four hits with 12 strikeouts.
Senior catcher Alysha Krier paced the Jags offensively in game one
with two hits, while senior Kayla Hicks had ASU's only RBI in
the first game. Four different Jags each had a hit in game one.
In game two, sophomore Emily Corish tossed all seven innings and
allowed only one hit and struck out four batters.
Sophomores DeMuth and Jessica Thornton had the only two hits for
the Jags in game two. DeMuth singled in the bottom of the fourth,
scoring Krier and Kristen Jones, and collected both RBI in the
second game.
For the Patriots, Senior Michaela Wolf was tagged with two losses
and dropped to 8-3 on the season. Wolf allowed eight hits and
struck out nine batters in 12 innings of work.
The Jags allowed only five Patriot hits on the day. Sophomore
Ashley Jaramillo paced Francis Marion offensively with two hits on
the afternoon.
The Jags will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 27 when they host
UNC Pembroke for a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Jaguar
Field. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
