AUGUSTA, Ga. - The
No. 12 Augusta State softball team swept Georgia Southwestern 11-0
and 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference
doubleheader in Americus, Ga.
The Jaguars combined for 19 hits on the afternoon, and held the St.
Andrews Knights to only seven hits on the day.
With the win, Augusta State improved to 20-6 overall and 6-0 in the
conference, while the 'Canes dropped to 11-20 on the season
and 1-7 in the league.
ASU sophomore Sara DeMuth received the win in game one and improved
to 9-2 on the season. DeMuth allowed only two hits and had four
strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work.
In game two, sophomore Emily Corish earned the win and improved to
7-3 overall. Corish only gave up one run on five hits and struck
out five batters. Senior Kimberly Kennedy relieved Corish in the
seventh and earned her second save of the season. Kennedy struck
out all three batters in the seventh inning.
Sophomore Jessica Thornton paced the Jags offensively on the day
with four hits and had five RBI with a grand slam in game one and
another homer in game two. Sophomore Kristen Jones had two hits on
the day with two homers and three RBO. Sophomore Kacee Camp had two
hits and a homerun and drove in three runs. DeMuth also jacked a
homer in game one, while junior Alyssa Pingree had two hits.
The Jags will be back in action Sunday, March 14 when they travel
to Columbus, Ga., to take on Columbus State in a Peach Belt
Conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
