AUGUSTA, Ga. -
Georgia Southwestern swept Augusta State in a Peach Belt Conference
doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The
'Canes took game one 6-2 and then topped the Jags 8-3 in the
nightcap.
With the loss, the Jaguars dropped to 8-18 overall and 0-8 in the
conference, while Georgia Southwestern improved to 14-6 on the
season and 6-2 in the league.
For the Jags in game one, Stephen Ramsey was tagged with the loss
and dropped to 0-1 on the season. Ramsey lasted six innings and
gave up four earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts. Wilson Taylor relieved Ramsey in the seventh and allowed one run on two
hits and struck one batter out.
Ryan Lackey (2-2) earned the win in game one for the 'Canes.
Lackey gave up two runs on 10 hits and had nine strikeouts in 6.0
innings of work.
In game two, Joah Evans received the loss and dropped to 1-3 on the
year. Evans lasted 6.2 innings and allowed five earned runs on
seven hits with three strikeouts. Scott Shipman relieved Evans and
pitched an inning. Shipman gave up two runs and had a strikeout.
Zach Minter relieved Shipman and finished the game. Minter allowed
no hits.
Casey Hanrahan led the Jaguars with four hits and an RBI, while
Tristan Toorie also had four hits on the afternoon. Alex Walker and
Tony Baker each had three hits on the day with Baker having an
RBI.
Byron Haynes led the 'Canes with three hits, including a
homer and five RBI. Jared Allen had three hits, while Trent Dooley
had two hits with three RBI on the afternoon.
The two teams close out the three-game series on Sunday at Lake
Olmstead Stadium. The single game was originally slated to begin at
1:00 p.m., but the game has been moved up to 11:30 a.m. due to rain
that is expected to move into the area later Sunday afternoon.
