AUGUSTA, Ga. - The
No. 10 Augusta State softball team swept USC Aiken 4-3 and 3-2 on
Monday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at Jaguar
Field.
The Jaguars combined for 15 hits on the afternoon, and held the USC
Aiken Pacers to only five hits on the day.
With the win, Augusta State improved to 27-9 overall, while the
Pacers dropped to 13-16 on the season.
ASU Sara DeMuth received the win in game one and improved to 12-3
on the season. DeMuth allowed three runs on one hit and had 11
strikeouts in 8.0 innings of work.
In game one, Kathleen Nichol took the loss in the circle for USC
Aiken, while striking out seven batters. She falls to 1-6 on the
2010 season.
In game two, sophomore Emily Corish earned the win and improved to
10-4 overall. Corish only gave up two runs on four hits and struck
out a batter. Senior Kimberly Kennedy relieved Corish in the
seventh and earned her third save of the season.
Tony Flessate took the loss for the Pacers in game two. She moves
to 6-7 for the 2010 campaign. Flessate had seven strikeouts on the
afternoon.
Jessica Thornton paced the Jags offensively on the day going
5-for-7 with five RBI. Alysha Krier, Kacey Sims and Beth Gerlach
each had two hits on the day with Krier having an RBI. Four
different Jags each had a hit on the afternoon.
The Jags will be back in action on Wednesday, March 24 when they
host Armstrong Atlantic State for a Peach Belt Conference
doubleheader at Jaguar Field. First pitch is slated for 2:00
p.m.
