AUGUSTA, Ga. - The
No. 10 Augusta State softball squad topped Queens 1-0 and 2-1 on
Friday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at Jaguar
Field.
Augusta State improved to 30-10 on the year, while the Royals
dropped to 15-16 on the season.
Sara DuMuth, improving to 13-4 on the season, earned the win in
game one. DeMuth allowed seven hits and booked 14 strikeouts.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when Kacee Camp knocked out a homerun to lead the Jags to a 1-0 victory over
the Royals in game one.
Emily Corish earned the win in game two and improved to 12-4
overall. Corish gave up one run on six hits and struck out six
batters in 6.0 innings of work. Kimberly Kennedy relieved Corish in
the seventh and earned her fourth save of the season.
Kacey Sims paced the Jags offensively on the afternoon with two
hits. Camp had a hit with a homer and RBI, while Laura Brown booked
a hit with an RBI in game two. Beth Gerlach, Kayla Hicks and Leann Barber each had hits on the day.
For the Royals, Megan Campbell paced the team offensively with
three hits and the Royals only run scored on the day. Keeya Turner,
Megan Rollins and Maria Goode each had two hits on the
afternoon.
The Jags will be back in action on Monday, March 29 when they host
Georgia College & State for a Peach Belt Conference
doubleheader at Jaguar Field. First pitch is slated for 2:00
p.m.
