AUGUSTA, Ga. - No.
11 Francis Marion defeated the Jaguars 11-4 on Sunday afternoon in
the rubber game of the three-game Peach Belt Conference series. The
Patriots took the series from Augusta State 2-1.
With the loss, the Jaguars fall to 10-21 overall and 2-10 in the
conference, while Francis Marion improved to 24-7 on the season and
7-5 in the league.
For the Jags, Curtis Parker was tagged with the loss and dropped to
1-1 on the season. Parker lasted 5.1 innings and gave up eight runs
on seven hits with five strikeouts. Zach Minter relieved Parker in
the sixth and pitched 1.2 innings and allowed no hits. Josh Barks
relieved Minter in the eighth and gave up two runs on two hits in
an inning of work. Chase Johnston relieved Barks in the ninth and
struck out two batters.
For the Patriots, Don Sandifer earned the win and improved to 3-0
on the year. Sandifer only allowed three runs on seven hits and had
10 strikeouts. Brandon Forshee relieved Sandifer in the ninth and
allowed one run on two hits and had a strikeout.
Parker led the Jags with two hits, a homer, a double and two RBI,
while Caleb Saggus was 2-for-4 on the afternoon with an RBI. Five
different Jags each had five hits on the day.
For the Patriots, Barrett Kleinknecht led the team with three hits,
two homers and four RBI. Josh Biggers had two hits, while Chris
Honeycutt had a homer with three RBI. Trent Knight and Bucky Wells
each had a hit and an RBI.
ASU hosts Montevallo over the weekend in a three-game Peach Belt
Conference series. The Jags and Falcons meet in a single game on
Saturday, April 2 at 3:00 p.m., and then square off in a
doubleheader on Sunday, April 3 at 12:00 p.m.
