AUGUSTA, Ga. -
10th ranked Augusta State swept Georgia College & State on
Monday afternoon in Peach Belt Conference play at Jaguar Field. ASU
won game one 5-1 and took the nightcap 10-0 in five innings.
Sara DeMuth earned the win in game and improved to 14-4 on the
season. DeMuth pitched all seven innings and allowed only one run
on three hits and struck out 14 batters.
For the Bobcats, Kristi Rodriguez was tagged with the loss in game
one and dropped to 3-8 overall. Rodriguez gave up four runs on
eight hits and had a strike out in 3.2 innings of work. Haley
Burnett relieved Rodriguez in the fourth and allowed one run on
four hits with a strikeout in 2.1 innings of work.
In the nightcap, Emily Corish received the win and moved to 13-4 on
the year. Corish gave up only two hits and had a strikeout in 4.0
innings of work. Kimberly Kennedy relieved Corish in the fifth and
closed out the game. Kennedy struck out two batters and gave up one
hit.
Burnett was tagged with the loss in game two for the Bobcats.
Burnett lasted 3.2 innings and allowed nine earned runs on nine
hits and had two strikeouts.
Jessica Thornton paced the Jags offensively going 5-for-6 on the
afternoon with a homer and three RBI. Kristen Jones had four hits
on the day with a homer and five RBI. Beth Gerlach had four hits,
while four different Jags had two hits each on the afternoon.
For Georgia College & State, Allison Schwimer led the team with
three hits on the afternoon. The Bobcats only run of the day came
off a Kayla Smith homer in the fifth inning of game one.
The Jaguars are back in action tomorrow, when they travel to
Greenwood, S.C., to take on Lander in a Peach Belt Conference
doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m.
