FLORENCE, S.C.
-No. 15 Augusta State took on Armstrong Atlantic State in
game ten of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament at Freedom
Florence Park in Florence, S.C. The Pirates knocked the Jaguars out
of the tournament with a 4-1 victory over ASU.
With the loss, Augusta State dropped to 38-15 on the season, while
the win moved the Pirates to 33-16 overall.
The Pirates jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the
first. April Jowers started the inning with a double to left field.
Jowers would then advance to third on a sac bunt from Erin
Billingsley. Baillie Temples had a sac fly to second base, which
allowed Jowers to score.
AASU would add another run in the fourth with a double from Shelby
Duff that would score Heather Echols, giving the Pirates a 2-0
lead.
ASU answered back in the bottom of the fourth when Kacee Camp
homered to right field edging the Pirates lead to 2-1.
AASU would add a run in the fifth and sixth innings, to take the
lead and the victory over ASU, 4-1.
ASU's Sara DeMuth was tagged with the loss and dropped to
15-8 on the season. DuMuth allowed four runs (three earned) on five
hits and had six strikeouts.
Megan Barnwell earned the win for AASU and improved to 15-7 on the
season. Barnwell gave up on one run on three hits and booked 13
strikeouts.
Camp paced the Jags offensively going 2-for-3 with an RBI and
homer, while Leann Barber had the only other hit on the day for the
Jags.
For the Pirates, Duff and Ashley Buckett each had a hit and an RBI
on the day, while Nicole Huddleston, Meagan Qualls, and Jowers each
had a hit in the game.
