AUGUSTA, Ga. -
Flagler claimed a 2-1 victory in game two of Friday's
doubleheader with Augusta State and earned a split in the Peach
Belt Conference twinbill at Jaguar Field.
The 16th-ranked Jaguars celebrated Senior Day and honored Leann Barber, Beth Gerlach, Kayla Hicks, Kimberly Kennedy and Alysha Krier, who were making their final home appearance.
Kennedy, a senior righthander from Rutledge, Ga., registered 10
strikeouts and improved to 6-2 on the season with a 3-0 blanking of
the Saints in game one. She yielded just two hits without a walk in
7.0 innings. Flagler's Kelly Riddick (15-10) gave up seven
hits in 6.0 innings with six strikeouts against a single walk.
Kacey Sims went 3-for-3, while Kristen Jones jacked her ninth home
run of the season and went 2-for-2 for the Jags (34-11, 13-4 in the
PBC.)
In game two, the Saints plated single runs in the first and third
innings and made them stand up, edging ASU 2-1 despite being outhit
7-2 by the Jags
Kristen Chapman (8-5) earned the complete-game win, recording one
strikeout and one walk. Sophomore righty Sara DeMuth (14-5) took
the loss, surrendering just two hits and an earned run in 7.0
innings with six strikeouts and a pair of walks.
Brittany Hatem and Katherine Cabrera tallied the only hits for the
Saints. Sims led ASU with a pair of safeties and Hicks logged the
Jags' lone RBI.
The Jags travel to Valdosta State on Tuesday, April 6 for a
non-conference doubleheader at 2:00 p.m.
