GAFFNEY, S.C. -
Augusta State topped Limestone 5-3 on Thursday afternoon in a
non-conference game at Bob Prevatte Field in Gaffney, S.C.
Augusta State improves to 13-23 with the victory, while the Saints
fall to 12-29 overall.
The Saints would score the first three runs of the game with a
single run in the first inning thanks to a Jaguar error and two
runs in the second coming on a two-run single from Micah Robinson.
However, these would be the only runs the Saints would score on the
day as Augusta State tied the game in the third inning with a
three-run home run and would score two runs in their half of the
sixth inning en route to taking the 5-3 victory.
Tristan Toorie led the Jaguars going 3-for-4 with a home run and
four runs batted in. Carl Burrow also had three hits and added a
solo home run for Augusta State. Scott Shipman earned the victory
as he started on the mound and went six innings, allowing only two
earned runs. Jacob Watson got the save as he threw a scoreless
ninth inning.
Robinson led the Saints at the plate going 2-for-4 with two runs
batted in and a run scored. Tim Welsh had two hits, while Joe
Maloney hit 1-for-2 on the day. Matt Varnadoe was tagged with the
loss as he allowed two earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. Cameron
Ward threw the last two innings, allowing only one hit and
collecting five strikeouts.
The Jags are back in action this weekend with a three-game Peach
Belt Conference series against USC Aiken. ASU kicks off the series
with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 10, at 1:00 pm at Roberto
Hernandez Stadium.
