AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State's Travis Keels scored on a tip-in with 1.6 seconds left Wednesday night to lift the Jaguars to a thrilling 63-61 victory over Armstrong Atlantic State in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The fifth-ranked Jags, who trailed by as much as 12 in the second half, were down 61-57 with just 56 seconds remaining. Senior guard George Johnson drilled a 3-pointer off a feed from Keels with 47 seconds to go, cutting the deficit to 61-60.
After Franck Ndongo rebounded Chris Edwards' missed jumper and the Pirates were whistled for a foul with 18 seconds left, Ben Purser connected on the first of two free throws. Ndongo came up with the offensive rebound on Purser's missed attempt, and following a pair of timeouts, Keels took Johnson's pass from the sideline and tipped in his own miss for the game-winning basket.
